Memphis
Chapter
Black Girls Code Memphis successfully conducts quarterly BGC workshops every year, as well as at least four enrichment activities. Our chapter loves to celebrate the rich culture of our area. It’s a city of soul, and the blues, and great food (especially barbecue). Situated in the deep south, we are the home of Kimberly Bryant, Aretha Franklin, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. The National Civil Rights Museum, FedEx headquarters, Sun Studio, Beale Street, and more.
Chapter Highlight:
ALSAC/St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital CAO Emily Greer embraced Black Girls CODE Memphis in 2019. At an event, she told her story of growing up in the south part of Memphis. Emily encouraged the girls that they could make it just as far as she has and lead a major organization. One high school senior, in particular, decided on majoring in computer science after meeting Mrs. Greer.
