Washington D.C.
Chapter
The DC chapter has been in operation since 2015, and we pride ourselves in continuously introducing STEM to over 600 girls on a yearly basis. Girls travel from Baltimore, Richmond, Virginia and Fayetteville, North Carolina to attend our workshops and come from all socio-economic backgrounds. We look forward to expanding our event locations outside of DC.
Chapter Highlight:
While conducting a panel with the NSA, one of the girls asked, “The defense budget for America is one of the largest budgets in the entire country. Why is it that your intelligence and defence agencies are still working on outdated machines and technologies when we can afford to have the latest?” They learned that the professionals share this concern, but also that it is better for governments to work with more stable and secure technologies versus new ones because the agencies can never allow their systems to go down. At the end of the program, the engineer came up to us expressing that he was very impressed with the complexity of the questions and would love for us to return next year.
